League City Police Officers enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package including educational incentive pay, bilingual pay, paid vacations, and paid sick leave. Officers who are certified with at least three years experience are eligible for a $5000 signing bonus. In addition, we have comprehensive medical, dental, and retirement plans.
The Selection Process
The selection process is thorough and may take several weeks. All applicants must successfully pass each of the following phases in order to qualify for a position:
- Applicants meet all City of League City eligibility requirements
- Applicants take and pass Nelson-Denny civil service exam (Nelson-Denny practice exams are available online)
- Applicants take a physical/functional capacity test
- Applicants are interviewed by an oral review board
- A background investigation is conducted
- A polygraph examination is administered
- A medical examination and drug testing is done
- A psychological test and evaluation is performed
- The applicant is hired

Civil Service Entrance Exam Registration
We are proud to announce our next Civil Service Entrance Exam date has been set.
Date: July 24, 2020 @ 7 PM (Friday evening) Location: Hometown Heroes Park (1001 E. League City Pkwy)
*** Due to current events, the July 2020 Civil Service Exam will be administered with Social Distancing Protocols in place ***
Protocols include, but are not limited to the following
- Please arrive early and follow all guidelines to be checked in.
- Attendees will be placed in assigned seats.
- Attendees who feel ill/ have a fever of 100.4 of higher, should not attend.
- Prior to entering the testing facility, attendees may have their temperature checked. If an attendee is shown to have a temperature of 100.4 or higher, they will NOT be allowed to enter the testing facility.
- Other protocols may be assigned or removed prior to the test date.
We encourage and expect all attendees to practice and abide by all testing social distancing protocols
Once the written exam is completed, attendees will have their answer sheets graded and be notified if they received a passing score. Those who pass, will be invited back the following day, July 25, 2020 to attend our Physical Assessment Test.

Recruiting Event at LCPD
The League City Police Department will have upcoming Recruiting events at the League City Police Department during the months of June and July 2020.
The Open Recruiting Events at the League City Police Department are for those considering a career in Law Enforcement and joining LCPD. Participants will be introduced to our Recruiting team and will receive important information about the hiring process. Following the Q&A session, attendees will have the opportunity to practice any portion of our Physical Assessment Test. The practice Physical Assessment Test is the same standards as the Official Physical Assessment Test given after passing the Civil Service Exam (minus the mile and half run).

Personal History Packet
Anyone who passes the civil service exam and the physical assessment test is required to submit a personal history packet to continue with the hiring process. The deadline to submit the packet will be announced on the day of the exam. No packets will be accepted until after testing is completed.
The packet should be completed fully and accurately. To ensure that the packet is submitted by the deadline, it is recommended that you begin completing the packet now. The Personal History Packet (PDF) and applicable required documents (listed on page 47) should be submitted to the Human Resources Department located at 300 West Walker by scheduling an appointment for drop-off at 281-554-1010. Note: If you have trouble opening the Personal History Statement packet, you will need to do one of the following:

After Hiring
- Certified applicants enter the field training program.
- Non-certified applicants are sent to a local police academy. The academy will be chosen and paid for by the department. The cadet will be paid while going through the academy (See Pay Scale PN1). Upon completion of the academy, cadets will enter the field training program.

Detention Officer (Accepting Applications)
The League City Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Detention Officer. Please check back for hiring announcements.This position is responsible for the supervision of inmates, property, and booking. The position reports to the Jail Supervisor. The current schedule is 12-hour shift work (3 days on - 4 days off, 4 days on - 3 days off).

Example of Duties
- Provide information and directions to the public.
- Write reports pertaining to complaints received.
- Answer the telephones and take messages. Disseminate information to field officers as necessary.
- Provide meals, clothing, mattresses, blankets, and personal items to prisoners.
- Conduct searches of prisoners and cells.
- Maintain physical control of prisoners by using minimal restraint techniques.
- Accurately type all prisoner, property, medical, court data into Jail Management System.
- Assists with the cleaning and maintenance of the facility as needed; identifies maintenance and mechanical problems.
- Manages trustees.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Fingerprint and photograph prisoners and citizens electronically using the AFIS machine (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) or manually using black ink.
- Collect breath/alcohol specimens from citizens suspected of driving while intoxicated
- Using an intoxilyzer instrument.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A current Jail Certification standing preferred.
- Able to pass all pre-employment screening such as clerical typing testing at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school completion of high school or equivalent, personal interview by department staff, background investigation, polygraph.
- Possess or easily obtain a Texas Driver's License.
- Must be able to obtain Intoxilyzer certification in one year.

- Probationary Employee's was successfully complete a field training program;
- Probationary Employee's must demonstrate job proficiency in order to pass a one year probationary period.

Test Information
The League City Police Department utilizes a computer administered dispatch simulation testing software called CritiCall. The test generally takes approximately 2 1/2 hours to complete as applicants are assessed in multiple areas that include:
- Call summarization
- Character comparison
- Cross referencing
- Data entry
- Map reading
- Memory recall
- Prioritization
- Probability
- Reading comprehension
- Sentence clarity
- Spelling
Applicants are required to bring a photo ID for test admission. Applicants with visible tattoos will not be eligible for employment.
